RESPECT CAMPAIGN - July 2009

Granville District Soccer Referees Association and Granville District Soccer Football Association are responding to the growing concern from all levels of football to tackle the unacceptable behaviour in today's game.  Respect is a continuous campaign aimed at creating an enjoyable playing environment that allows people to play, officiate and watch football without being abused, mocked, insulted, jeered, physically assaulted and unnecessarily criticised. GDSRA has also created a presentation for all participants in the game regarding Respect. This can be downloaded by clicking on the following link: GDSRA and GDSFA Respect Campaign

On average, 7,000 referees quit football every year in the UK because of the abuse they receive from players and from the sidelines. Lots of children also pack it in because of the attitude and actions of over-enthusiastic and pushy parents.  Respect is a program that was initially launched by The FA in England at the commencement of the 2008-09 season, and has been adapted by GDSRA and GDSFA for our local needs.

PRE_MATCH INSTRUCTIONS AND QUALITIES OF REFEREES - April, 2009

Articles on Pre-Match Instructions and the Qualities of Referees have been added to the website.  The pre-match instructions should cover the duties, responsibilities, and means of
communication for the referee team. Depending on the familiarity of team members, the level of competition, and the importance of the match, the pre-game instructions can take place 15 minutes to an hour prior to the game.  Concerning the qualities of referee there is a close relationship between the psychological skills and the physical performance of referees. So the success or failure of a referee depends both on his/her physical abilities (e.g. the preparation for the specific demands of a given sport, the technique and mobility, visual faculties) and his/her mental ones (e.g. confidence, concentration, emotional control).  This relationship between the physical aspects of refereeing and the psychological ones is fascinating.

These excellent articles for helping referees can be found under the "Members' Information" drop down menu, sub menu "Referee's Documents" and sub sub menu "Other Documents & Articles" and clicking on the appropriate pdf symbol.

Alternatively you can directly go to these articles by clicking on the following pdf symbols:

NEW APPOINTMENTS ONLINE FACILITY - January 2007

Whilst our old Appointments System served it's purpose well the Management Committee felt it was time to get a better program to meet our expanding future needs and to become more professional.  The additional add on support program for the online facility, written by your Webmaster with some help from Ian Welch, also served us well but our new appointments software does the online part as well so it is being put to rest.

To access the new Appointments System and find you assigned games as before go to the drop down menu "Members Information" and then the sub menu "Appointments" and then the sub menu "Member Appointments".  You will go to a screen which requests you to "Enter Appointments Area".  Clicking on the button links you to an external sign on screen where you can set up your information, availability and also access your assigned games.  Your email address has to be entered in and also, initially, the password allocated by our Appointments Officer, Ian Welch.  You can changed your password once signed in.   Ian has provided every signed up GDSRA member for 2007 details to follow.  If you have any problems in setting up your details please contact him.  The new program also handles payments to you for games officiated at.

You can also go straight to the appointments area by clicking on the Internet Explorer symbol:

OFFSIDE INTERPRETATION AND CLARIFICATION - March 2006

Soccer NSW have issued a statement from Richard Lorenc, National Refereeing Manager of Federation Football Australia concerning the new offside interpretation.  This statement was provided to various associations who attended a special NSWSRI Education meeting.

In most offside situations the "old" rule will still apply; i.e. where only one attacking player clearly goes for the ball from an offside position, the player is deemed offside.  If the referee uses the "wait and see" approach for this player to touch the ball, then the defending team will be disadvantaged,  The indirect free kick is taken from where the offside player was situated when the ball was played.

This Soccer NSW Memo has been added to our website and can be located under the "Referees Documents" section of the web site.  This can be found by clicking on the drop down menu "Members Information"  sub menu "Referees Documents" and then clicking on "Other Documents and Articles".  The article is in pdf format and you can click on the pdf symbol below to view it now if you so desire.  Please read this document carefully.
